A PHDs Co. NPX32-M Planar Imaging Germanium Detector System uses a compact long-lived (>50,000 hrs ~ 5.7 yrs) Stirling-cycle mechanical cooler to replace liquid-nitrogen cooling. When fully integrated, a single button starts the NPX-M detector system. A click of the mouse starts gamma-ray data acquisition. Temperature interlocks prevent the detector from warming up under bias voltage.
Originally developed for Nuclear Physics Research in collaboration with physicists at Argonne National Laboratory and supported by the DOE Office of Nuclear Physics, the NPX-M Germanium Detector System now provides a turnkey solution without the hassle of liquid nitrogen cooling.
The NPX detectors were developed with the support of a DOE Office of Science SBIR Grant “Development of Reliable Segmented Germanium Planar Detector Systems for Nuclear Physics” [Grant #DE-FG02-03ER83742].
