Gamma Ray Imaging
The superb energy resolution of a position sensitive germanium detector provides the best gamma-ray image
resolution by rejecting Compton scattered background. An image of a 99mTc source is shown. Two inch papers
serve as Compton scattering media between the detector and source. Virtually all the Compton scattered
background is eliminated when the image is formed using events from a narrow energy window around the
140-keV peak.
